“Vroom, Vroom”, car door, handmade paper made with cotton and abaca fibers, string, collage, acrylic paint, foraged sticks, 40 x 55”, 2025
“Vroom Vroom” is a found car door altered with woven handmade paper, string, collage, acrylic, spray paint, and foraged sticks. My artistyear cohort found it while cleaning up a park as part of our service to the community. I saw it as an opportunity to give life back to a “dead” object. I wanted to work with it in a way that parallels how nature slowly takes back over what’s left behind. Imagery from vintage magazines hints at the cycle of consumerism. This piece speaks not only about the life cycle an object can take on but also the societal framework it must exist in for that cycle to begin in the first place.
