2 for 1! “Sticks and Stumps” 10 x 12 in. linocut and monotype on thai kozo paper. “Jody and Stacey” 12x 16 in. acrylic and collage on canvas.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how print lends itself to the rest of my practice. After a full day of teaching, I’m often not ready to be still, but I also don’t always have the mental energy for intentional composition or highly structured making. Returning to a linocut block, rearranging collage scraps, or building onto an already active surface has become a way for me to unwind while still tending to my practice. Sometimes I let the pressure of making something “successful” or “meaningful” stand in the way of just playing around in the studio and seeing what becomes of it. Having small projects that are tactile in nature and easy to pick up have really helped me push through that mental block. Even without a fixed vision, I’m still moving through the act of making letting repetition, experimentation, and material play guide where the work wants to go.
