“family of 9” acrylic, monotypes, oil pastel, and college on 9 - 9 x 12” in canvases

This piece started with a hunger to work bigger while still being bound to working small in my apartment. What better way to go about it than by breaking up the composition. Finding balance in this piece was much more challenging than I expected. I realized I subconsciously rely on the rule of thirds quite often, and the way the canvases were already divided naturally established those compositional boundaries. Finding ways to work with and sometimes against that existing structure became a surprisingly interesting part of the process. I found a lot of joy in breaking up the pieces, working on them individually and then altogether again. While working at home has produced plenty of food for thought I will say I can’t wait for a new studio at RIT!
